If you really want to change your situation, you first need to change yourself. You must change your mindset, your habits, and your actions. It is difficult to change yourself, but it is necessary if you want to change your life. Here are the six steps you can take to change yourself positively and have a massive impact on your life and your health.
Purpose
Ask yourself: What is it that I really want? What is it that I really want to change?
You need to set your sights on what it is that you really want, some future goal or objective that you want to attain. Once you are clear on what it is that you want, you have a purpose.
You may want to lose weight, you may want to sleep better, you may want to move better, or you may want to think better. Your purpose is something in the future that acts like a magnet. Even when we are distracted, challenged, or disappointed with life’s everyday ups and downs, our purpose still draws us towards it. What’s your purpose?
Personal Responsibility
Ask yourself: Am I prepared to take the steps that are necessary to realize my purpose?
Personal responsibility is when you are willing to be fully accountable for your actions, decisions, and thoughts.
When you have personal responsibility, you don’t react to the things around you; you simply act. You never complain and never explain, and you do the things that you must do. When you take personal responsibility, you will notice that your character grows, self-reliance, self-discipline, and self-confidence will shine.
Enthusiasm
You will find that when you state your purpose and take personal responsibility for your actions, enthusiasm will infect you. The definition of enthusiasm is “a feeling of energetic interest in a particular subject or activity and an eagerness to be involved in it.” You’ll be eager to find and devote time to your purpose; you’ll be willing to spend the time to take the next step.
Knowledge
Do you have the knowledge to attain your purpose or reach your goals? How does the saying go, “knowledge is power and applied knowledge is freedom.” Learn and find the skills that you will require to reach your goals. Educating yourself has never been easier; we all have the source at our fingertips. The internet and the store of accumulated knowledge have become accessible to us all. If you don’t know where to begin, find a mentor, take a class, do a course, find someone who has the experience to guide you.
Preparation
Benjamin Franklin once said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
To succeed in anything in life, you must take the time to prepare and plan; it is the key. Good preparation allows you to organize your time and your thoughts. It will act as a guide to help you take the next step towards your purpose. It will bring you greater focus and help you get back on track when life gets in the way. Whatever your goal is, get it out of your head and onto paper, make a list, plan your schedule, adjust it and review it as you go along. We should remember that good fortune often happens when opportunity meets with preparation.” ― Thomas A. Edison.
Perform
It is now time to perform and get into action. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” said Lao Tzu. Don’t wait till the timing is correct; the timing is now. You need to take that first step, and then all other steps will follow. You will notice that your purpose will help you take the necessary actions; it will pull you into the future.
Take the first step.
